How to Make Turtle Caramel Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 1/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk (for caramel layer)
  • 60 caramels (unwrapped)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, and melted butter. Stir until well combined.
  3. Press half of the cake mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 8 minutes.
  4. While that bakes, melt the caramels with 1/2 cup evaporated milk in a saucepan over low heat. Stir until smooth.
  5. Take the pan out of the oven. Pour the caramel mixture over the baked cake layer.
  6. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped pecans evenly over the caramel.
  7. Press the remaining cake mixture on top. It’s okay if some caramel shows through.
  8. Return the pan to the oven and bake for 20 more minutes.
  9. Let the cake cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
