How to Make Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients:

  • 4 large green tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Directions:

  1. Slice the green tomatoes into thick slices, about 1/4 inch.
  2. Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides of each slice.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs and milk together.
  4. Put flour in one bowl, cornmeal and bread crumbs in another bowl.
  5. Dip each tomato slice first in flour, then in egg mixture, then coat with the cornmeal and bread crumbs mix.
  6. In a large skillet, pour in vegetable oil to about 1/2 inch deep. Heat it over medium heat.
  7. Place coated tomato slices in hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 3-5 minutes each.
