Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 3/4 lb sliced mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

For the sauce:

  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, cornmeal, salt, and oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour until doubled.
  5. In a skillet, heat 3 tbsp olive oil and cook the sausage. Break it into small pieces and cook until browned. Set aside.
